Moving Locally: Address Change

June 2003

Introduction
Our feeble hopes that our previous address change would be our only one during the AOS process did not pan out. However, we plan to stay at this residence for a while, so hopefully this address change really will be "it"! Our biggest fear at this point is that the INS won't update our address in a timely fashion, and that their next correspondence to us will be significantly delayed or lost in the mail forwarding process. Go ahead, BCIS, prove us wrong!

It's been almost 20 months since the INS received our paperwork. Since then we've had the September 11 terrorist attack and the subsequent "restructuring" of the INS into the BCIS. How this has and will affect our application, only time will tell...

Who do I send this to? What do I send?
Given the March 1, 2003 restructuring, we decided that this time we would try the instructions on the Chicago Field Office Local Filing Procedures page. We'll let you know how it goes. This move was local, so we aren't worrying about getting our case files moved to a new office.

What we sent, and how

We decided to send the letter by certified mail with return receipt again, despite the added time and cost. We hope that if there are any problems getting the address change associated with Dan's file sending the letter this way will be added proof we carried our part of the burden.

Response
We'll let you know when we get the response!

Spouse/Sponsors
We again decided that it is not necessary for Becky to update her affidavit of support address at this time. Dan's AOS interview has not yet happened, so she isn't "on file" anywhere as being a sponsor. Plus, we expect that we will have to redo the I-864 when the interview does come around.
