EAD #2 - The Paperwork
October 29, 2002
Also see the EAD #2 Experience.
Contents of Renewal EAD package
Surprise, surprise, we filed this in the same way we did the I-129F and AOS application.
- money order for $120 payable to "Immigration and Naturalization Service" paperclipped to
- cover letter
- FC-029 statement about truth and accuracy of photocopies
- I-765 Application for Employment Authorization
- 2 ADIT photos
- photocopies of front and back of previous EAD
- photocopies of front and back of I-94
- photocopy of receipt notice for adjustment of status
Notes about the forms
FC-029 - We're not sure that this form is required, per se, but figure it can't hurt. In lieu of this form, you can always just write a note that says "Copies of documents submitted are exact photocopies of unaltered original documents and I understand that I may be required to submit original documents to an Immigration or Consular official at a later date." (or something to that affect). If you do this, don't forget to sign and date the note, and make sure your name is typed or printed somewhere on there as well.
I-765 - Looks suspiciously like the one we filed with Dan's AOS application. Differences? In our case, only question 11 - he had previously applied for employment authorization.
ADIT photos - We know they won't use them... the Chicago office takes new photos of you when you go in for your appointment. However, the instructions say to send 'em, so we do.
Putting it all together
- Everything was 2 hole punched at the top and fastened with an ACCO prong fastener
- The cover letter was the topmost piece of paper, and the money order was paperclipped to it.
- The ADIT photographs were attached to the forms by putting them a small envelope labeled and paperclipped to the I-765.
- Labels were printed out (Avery 5160 White Address Lbels) with Dan's name, the date, "I-765 ORIGINAL SUBMISSION", and then signed by Dan. These labels were fixed to the photocopies.
- Becky also made a backup copy of this exactly like the original, except for the labels.
Mailing the Application
This is one of the many, many times you should try to find out what your particular office wants. Check the INS website for your district offices filing procedures. Chicago likes you to mail the application to a particular P.O. Box.
- This was mailed in a 9" x 12 " envelope
- It was sent USPS Priority Mail with Tracking
- We wrote "Attention EAD" on the envelope, as specified by the Chicago District office.
